Subject: C18 rating
Tom, and Ken
The Capri 18 has been known as the Catalina 18 since 2000 - same boat. Wing keel model.
She is usually raced within her class and there is not much experience for PHRF rating number. She usually doesn't race against larger boats.
However US Sail rates her at 102.7 in the Portsmouth Yardstick, and this translates to 286 PHRF. This should make her competitive in our races. And that number would be used in Cresthaven races.
Ken, you may refer to the CYC 2000 website under Arrangements and Conditions, for eligibility requirements to race with
CYC (Cresthaven
Yacht Club). You are welcome to attend a Cresthaven meeting. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday every month at the Arrow Yacht Club, 22-02 119th Street, College Point, NY.

Ed,
Cool. I'll post your information on www.catalina18.net. I'm sure my fellow C18 owners will find it useful, though, as you've observed, we don't often race.
My last boat was a Sonar and I can say with complete confidence that the 286 PHRF for the C18 is quite realistic. I've sometimes felt that the
lighthouse at Stepping Stones can move faster than my boat <g>.
But it'll be fun to race her. However, if I discover she can't cross the finish line during the same week as everyone else, I might decide to withdraw from racing no matter how we place. No point in getting 'first place' if we consistently cross the finish line last <g>.
